This topic of open education was not brought up through the classroom but rather through a video assigned for homework. At first, I did not have a clear idea of what open education was but when I watched the video it became clear to me. As I completed this video, I realized that open education can impact many low income students in a positive way.
First, I had to learn what open education was. Open education is putting the best teaching and educational tools on the internet available for everyone. This is a great concept because the cost of textbooks have increased dramatically and the price of school shouldn’t be a barrier for anyone who wants an education. There are many intelligent students that unfortunately can not graduate college because of tuition and expenses.
If we are to continue with the usual student debt, this national crisis will not be resolved. Student debt is one of the worst issues that this country has to deal with and open education is one way that this issue can be fixed.
